Patrick Kane an All-Star assistant

DETROIT -- The NHL announced Saturday that Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane will be an assistant captain for the 2011 All-Star Game.

Kane will join assistant Martin St. Louis on captain Nicklas Lidstrom's team when his squad faces off against Team Eric Staal in the game on Jan. 30. Kane will also help "draft" the rest of his team on the Friday before the game.

Staal will have assistants Ryan Kesler and Mike Green on his side for the draft and game.

Joel Quenneville will coach one side while Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, and Patrick Sharp will join Kane in the game.
