Brent Seabrook regrets drawing penalty

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook said he regrets taking an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty late in a 3-1 loss to the Calgary Flames on Monday night.

Seabrook, who drew the whistle for yelling at the referees, was sent to the penalty box with the Hawks trailing by just a goal with 1:14 left in the game.

"It's a tough position I put the team in," Seabrook said after Tuesday's practice in Edmonton. "It's one of those things. I thought a call should have been made and my emotions got the best of me."

Seabrook was taken down while going towards the Flames net, but no penalty was called.

"The referees have a hard enough job making the right calls without us yelling at them and sometimes we have to show them a little more respect," Seabrook said. "That's the best way to get some respect for ourselves."

Players near the incident say Seabrook cursed at the official, but nothing more.

"We were yelling a little too much, and obviously when I started yapping there, it was the boiling point for them," Seabrook said.

The Flames scored an empty-net, power-play goal on the ensuing sequence.

It was a key game for both teams, who are fighting for a playoff spot. The win moved the Flames into eighth place in the Western Conference, with 61 points, while the Hawks remained 11th with 58.
