Acquired Wednesday from Florida, Frolik will make his Blackhawks debut Friday night against the Dallas Stars. He said he prefers playing wing.
"The last few years I've played there [wing]," he said Friday morning after his first practice with the team. "It's been like six or seven years since I played center. I prefer wing."
Coach Joel Quenneville said he'll start Frolik at his preferred position and go from there.
"We'll start him on the wing," Quenneville said. "We'll see if he gets a shot at center or not. The fact that he can play there is something we could explore."
Frolik will line up with Tomas Kopecky at center and Troy Brouwer on the other wing. Initially, Quenneville was hoping he would be paired with Marian Hossa, but Hossa likely will miss Friday's game with the flu.
Frolik knows he was slumping in Florida before the trade after back-to-back 21-goal seasons. He has just eight goals this year.
"They expected goals from me in Florida," Frolik said. "For sure the pressure was there but it's everywhere. Pretty sure it will be here, too."
"I'm just happy to be here," Frolik said. "It's exciting. There are so many great players. They are Stanley Cup champions. Everything is new to me, but the guys have been great."
