St. Joseph senior guard Wayne Simon committed to American University in the Patriot League on Tuesday.
Simeon, an ESPNChicago.com All-Area selection, averaged 15 points, four rebounds and four assists this past season for the Chargers.
"I think the big thing is he's become our go-to guy," said St. Joseph coach Gene Pingatore of Simon during the season. "All year, he's the guy we could go to when we need a bucket, and defensively, he's been one of our stoppers. He's been a very reliable player in the two years we've had him. He's an outstanding young man."
Simon chose American over Eastern Illinois, James Madison, Northeastern, Tulane and Tulsa.
St. Joseph had seven former players in Division I basketball during the 2009-2010 season. The players included UIC's Louis Green, Southern Illinois' Tony Freeman, Brown's Garrett Leffelman, Illinois' Demetri McCamey, Notre Dame's Jonathan Peoples, DePaul's Nate Rogers and Ohio State's Evan Turner.
