Hinsdale Central offensive lineman Scott McDowell had committed to Illinois.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound McDowell also had offers from Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan.

"I think that Illinois will see Scott as a positive investment," Hinsdale Central coach Mike DiMatteo said. "He is growing and maturing each day, and I think that he is only beginning to reach his potential. He should flourish at Illinois.

"He is quite intelligent as well, so he will be able to learn the schemes quite easily. I think he'll have a very nice career there. He is a large body that moves, and moves well. That is his biggest asset."

McDowell is Hinsdale Central's second Class of 2011 offensive lineman to commit to a Big Ten program. Jack Allen committed to Michigan State in August.

The Illini now have 16 commitments.
