High school boys basketball rankings

Team Name Record Notes
1. Simeon (33-1) The Wolverines went wire to wire as the area's No. 1 team. The Wolverines completed their run by defeating Proviso East in the Class 4A state championship on Saturday. Their only loss was to Findlay Prep from Nevada. (previously ranked No. 1)
2. Proviso East (32-1) The Pirates suffered their first defeat of the season in the state championship. They were leading Simeon in the fourth quarter, but couldn't hold on. (2)
3. Bloom (29-5) The Blazing Trojans finished in fourth place in Class 4A after losing to Proviso East and Rockford Auburn in Peoria. (4)
4. Warren (26-4) The Blue Devils lost to Rockford Auburn in the super-sectional championship last week. It was coach Chuck Ramsey's final game. (3)
5. North Chicago (25-7) The Warhawks took second place in Class 3A after defeating Springfield Lanphier in the semis and falling to Peoria Central in the championship. (8)
6. West Aurora (25-6) The Blackhawks lost to Proviso East in the Hinsdale-Central super-sectional to complete their season. (6)
7. Hillcrest (27-6) The Hawks finished in third place in Class 3A after losing to Peoria Central in the semis and defeating Springfield Lanphier. (7)
8. Marist (26-6) The RedHawks lost in the sectional championship to Simeon. They'll have plenty returning next season. (10)
9. Marshall (24-8) The Commandos' season ended with a loss to North Chicago in the Hoffman Estates' super-sectional. (5)
10. Whitney Young (16-10) The RedHawks pulled off another upset by defeating Bogan before losing to Simeon in the sectional title game. They should be among the area's top teams next year. (17)
11. Plainfield East (27-2) The Bengals' season ended with an overtime loss to West Aurora in a sectional semifinal. (13)
12. Evanston (21-11) The Wildkits' playoff run ended to Simeon in the Chicago State super-sectional. Mike Ellis has that program moving in the right direction. (9)
13. Metea Valley (25-5) The Mustangs lived up to expectations this season. They'll look to continue to build the program in years to come. (12)
14. Bogan (26-4) The Bengals lost to Marist in the sectional semifinals. They will look to be among the city's top teams again next year. (14)
15. Downers Grove South (23-6) The Mustangs had their season ended by Metea Valley in an East Aurora sectional semifinal. (7)
16. Elgin (26-4) The Maroons lost to Rockford Auburn in the Dundee-Crown sectional championship (13)
17. Curie (25-3) The Condors were upset by Marist in the regional finals. Cliff Alexander will be back against next season.
18. St. Joseph (20-9) The Chargers' run ended in a sectional semifinal loss to Marshall at Glenbard South. They'll have a number of players returning next year. (15)
19. Seton (28-6) The Sting finished fourth in Class 2A. They should be competitive again next season. (17)
20. New Trier (23-6) The Trevians' season ended to Evanston in the sectional semifinals. They're a program that usually reloads quickly. (NR)
