Karl to start Nowitzki

DALLAS -- Denver Nuggets coach George Karl will start Dirk Nowitzki for the West in place of the injured Kobe Bryant in Sunday's All-Star Game.

Nowitzki said Friday that Karl told him that he'd be guarding LeBron James, even though the Dallas Mavericks' 7-footer clearly isn't a guard.

According to Nowitzki, the conversation went like this:

"Good luck," Karl said, "you've got LeBron to start."

Dirk's reply: "Oh, sweet."
