Texas changes head injury rules

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas high school athletes will soon be required to sit out at least one day after sustaining a head injury.

State education Commissioner Robert Scott has signed off on the rule change, which was approved by the University Interscholastic League that oversees approximately 700,000 public school athletes in Texas.

The league currently allows players to return if they show no symptoms for 15 minutes. Starting Aug. 1, the change will require athletes to sit out the rest ...
