Rangers, closer come to $3.265M pact

1/26/2010 - MLB Frank Francisco Texas Rangers + more

Texas Rangers closer Frank Francisco has agreed to terms on a one-year, $3.265 million contract for the 2010 season, avoiding arbitration.

That leaves only one arbitration-eligible player who has yet to sign: right-handed pitcher Scott Feldman. The two sides were $850,000 apart when they exchanged figures last week.

Francisco, 30, had a career-high 25 saves in 2009 and ended up with a 3.83 ERA in 51 appearances (49 1/3 innings pitched) for the Rangers. He had three separate stints on the disabled list with right biceps tendinitis, right shoulder tendinitis and pneumonia.

Still, when he was healthy, he was reliable. Opposing batters hit .214 against him, and he had 57 strikeouts and 15 walks.

If the Rangers can get Feldman signed, they'll once again have an offseason that does not include an arbitration hearing. The last time they went to a hearing was 2000.
