Saltalamacchia passes tests on back
ARLINGTON -- Rangers catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia passed a series of medical tests (X-ray, MRI and nerve study) on his upper back on Friday.
Saltalamacchia, who was injured in the fourth inning of the season opener on Monday afternoon, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday.
Also, Saltalamacchia underwent a nerve block injection on the upper left side of his back to reduce inflammation. His status for rehab hasn't been determined.
When Saltalamacchia went on the DL, the club purchased the contract of catcher Matt Treanor from Oklahoma City and transferred right-hander Warner Madrigal (right forearm soreness) to the 60-day disabled list.
