The Texas Rangers placed outfielder Nelson Cruz on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a strained left hamstring.

Infielder Joaquin Arias, who was put on the DL last month with a muscle strain in his back, will be activated and in uniform Monday night against Tampa Bay to take Cruz's place on the roster.

Cruz suffered the hamstring injury as he ran the bases in Saturday's game against Boston. He hit a line drive off the wall in the seventh inning and slowed as he rounded second and head toward third base for a triple. He was taken out of the game following the inning.

An MRI on Sunday showed no tear in the hamstring muscle, but Cruz did have some inflammation. This is Cruz's third stint on the DL this season and all of them are hamstring related. He had a strained right hamstring in late April and early May and had a left hamstring strain in late May and most of June. He's hitting .320 with 16 homers and 64 RBI in 77 games for the Rangers this season.

Arias is hitting .275 with nine RBI in 46 games with the Rangers this season. The Cruz injury means that Mitch Moreland could see some more time in the outfield as could Julio Borbon. Texas also called up Brandon Boggs this weekend for outfield depth.
