Cruz expected to return Monday

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers announced Wednesday that outfielder Nelson Cruz will go to Double-A Frisco on Thursday to start his rehab assignment.

Cruz went on the disabled list Aug. 16 with a strained left hamstring. It is his third DL stretch for a hamstring injury this season.

Cruz is expected to play four games for Frisco and be activated when the AL West-leading Rangers play at Kansas City on Monday, the first day he is eligible to return.

Cruz, who hasn't had any setbacks with his hamstring, is batting .320 with 16 home runs and 64 RBIs in 77 games.

Also, right-handed reliever Dustin Nippert will go to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday to begin a rehab assignment. Nippert has been out since he was hit in the head by a batted ball on July 19.
