MINNEAPOLIS -- Texas Rangers left-hander Matt Harrison left his start at Minnesota after being hit by a line drive above his pitching elbow, resulting in a bruised triceps muscle.

Danny Valencia reached base leading off the seventh inning when his drive glanced off Harrison's arm. The pitcher picked up the ball and threw to Michael Young at first, but it was late and Valencia was given a single.

"He apologized, said he couldn't get it over there because his arm was numb," Young said. "Pretty good reason. He battled. He was throwing the ball really well."

Harrison was replaced by right-hander Mark Lowe, trailing 1-0 at the time. He was charged with two runs, one earned, in six-plus innings while striking out three. He gave up five hits and three walks.

"He did an excellent job going out there and getting us that deep in the ballgame," manager Ron Washington said.
