Rodrigue Beaubois back in walking boot

DALLAS -- Dallas Mavericks guard Rodrigue Beaubois is wearing a walking boot on his left foot again after experiencing some swelling and soreness.

Beaubois, who broke the fifth metacarpal in his foot while training with the French national team and underwent surgery in early August, had started light basketball workouts last week.

"He's back in a boot for a while, but it's not serious," coach Rick Carlisle said Monday. "How much, if at all, it extends his recovery is not certain, but we don't think a big deal. We're going to be cautious with it, like we would with any player. He's doing extremely well, but we're going to make sure that he's ready for 100 games and not just a yo-yo in-and-out deal."

The Mavericks are strongly considering starting Beaubois at shooting guard. His role will be increased significantly after he averaged 7.1 points on 52 percent shooting in 12.5 minutes per game as a rookie.

The Mavericks had been optimistic that Beaubois would be ready for the start of the regular season. Carlisle said he didn't want to commit to any timetable, but he indicated that Beaubois wouldn't miss extended time.

"We'll see," Carlisle said. "He was doing extremely well. This is a minor thing. It's nothing major. We're in a precautionary mode, but we're going to continue to be aggressive with his rehab."
