Dallas Mavericks center Tyson Chandler needed two stitches to close a cut on his right thumb suffered during Wednesday's preseason loss to the Orlando Magic.

"It will be all right," Chandler said after the game. "It'll probably take about a week to heal."

If that's the case, it leaves Chandler's status for the season opener in question.

The Mavericks have one more preseason game, against the Houston Rockets on Friday, before they open the regular season at home Wednesday against the Charlotte Bobcats.

Chandler suffered the injury trying to block a layup by Orlando's Dwight Howard just before halftime of the Magic's 101-76 victory -- their 21st straight in the preseason.

Chandler left the court bleeding and grimacing in pain and did not return. The Mavericks also were without starters Jason Kidd and Shawn Marion, who were given the night off to rest.

The Mavericks also may be without shooting guard Roddy Beaubois for the opener. The second-year player is still recovering after having surgery for a broken left foot suffered in early August while working out with the French national team in preparation for the FIBA World Championships.
