Dallas Mavericks center Tyson Chandler will miss at least the next two games after spraining his right ankle in the first half of Tuesday's win at Philadelphia, coach Rick Carlisle said Wednesday.

Chandler is the Mavs' defensive anchor and is averaging 10.4 points and 9.4 rebounds in his first season with the team. Coming off two seasons of foot injuries, this marks the first time this season that Chandler will miss time because of injury.

He has sat out three games this season, all due to illness. Dallas went 1-2 in those games.

The Mavs will look to backup center Brendan Haywood to start and Ian Mahinmi to fill the backup role. Haywood has had mostly a forgettable season after signing a lucrative contract in the offseason, but he has played well of late, averaging 8.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in his last five games.

Dallas has won 17 of 18 games and takes a seven-game win streak into Friday's home game against the Indiana Pacers. They then play a back-to-back games -- at home Sunday against Memphis and at Minnesota on Monday.

Jeff Caplan covers the Mavericks for ESPNDallas.com.
