Rodrigue Beaubois out with foot sprain
DALLAS -- Dallas Mavericks shooting guard Rodrigue Beaubois, a starter until being benched in the regular-season finale, did not play in Saturday night's 89-81 Game 1 win against the Portland Trail Blazers due to a sprained left foot.
Beaubois, 23, injured his foot in Wednesday's game, his first coming off the bench since the second game of his return from a broken left foot that kept him out of action for 54 games. Beaubois dressed for Saturday morning's shootaround and said his foot was "feeling better," but that he wouldn't be available to play.
Even if healthy, Beaubois wouldn't have been in the starting lineup and any role as a reserve was unclear with sixth man Jason Terry in front of him. Stevenson scored five points in 19 minutes Saturday.
Mavs coach Rick Carlisle made the decision to go back to veteran guard DeShawn Stevenson in the starting lineup prior to Wednesday's final game. Stevenson replaced Beaubois in the lineup earlier in the season and then became the odd man out when Beaubois returned just prior to the All-Star break.
Beaubois, though, struggled offensively, never becoming the quick penetrator the team had hoped for, and he had a difficult time with defensive schemes and foul trouble. He started 26 of the 28 games, averaging 8.4 points and 2.3 assists in 17.7 minutes.
"It was time," Carlisle said.
Beaubois' status for the remainder of the series, which resumes with Game 2 on Tuesday, is uncertain.
