At the start of halftime of Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night, ESPN reporter Doris Burke confirmed that Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki was playing with a fever perhaps as high as 101 or 102 degrees.
Despite being under the weather, Nowitzki shook off three poor quarters to score 10 of his 21 points in the final period as the Mavs outscored Miami 21-9 over the final 10:12 for an 86-83 victory.
Nowitzki, who often had a towel draped over his head while on the bench, apparently woke up Tuesday with the fever.
Nowitzki appeared fine at the start of the game, scoring the Mavericks' first six points, but was just 1-for-7 for the remainder of the first half and had eight points at intermission.
The Mavericks avoided going in a 3-1 hole to the Miami Heat.
