LSU and Oregon will start their 2011 season in the annual Cowboys Classic game at Cowboys Stadium, it was announced Tuesday.

The game will be played Sept. 3 and televised by ESPN.

It will be the third annual Cowboys Classic at the state-of-the-art facility in Arlington, Texas. In the inaugural game, BYU beat Oklahoma, 14-13, in 2009. Last weekend, TCU knocked off Oregon State, 30-21, in Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' $1.2 billion stadium.

LSU and Oregon have played each other three times, the last in 1977. Neither team has played at Cowboys Stadium, which became the site of the Cotton Bowl last year.

Oregon is ranked No. 7 in the latest Associated Press poll while LSU is No. 19.
