He delayed the surgery so he could play in the NFL Pro Bowl on Sunday. There are 16 players who will not participate in the NFL's all-star game because of injuries.
Ware played most of the season with a stress fracture in his left foot. He also dealt with a fracture in his wrist and a neck strain that led to him leaving Cowboys Stadium in an ambulance on Dec. 13.
But Ware, who had two sacks in a win over the previously undefeated New Orleans Saints the week after injuring his neck, has not missed a game in his five-year career. And he didn't want to miss his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl.
"It's just fun to be here and it's an honor," Ware told the Cowboys' official Web site. "I think it's a big deal to be here and I wanted to be a part of it."
Ware described the surgery as "not really a big deal" and said he would be off his feet for about a week after the operation.
Ware is one of eight Cowboys on the NFC team, which is being coached by Wade Phillips and the Dallas staff. Cowboys center Andre Gurode was voted to be a starter but will not play because he needed arthroscopic surgery on his knee.
