Bryant (hamstring) sits out OTA drills

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant did not participate in team drills during Tuesday's organized team activity workout due to a sore left hamstring.

Bryant, the 24th overall pick in the draft, described sitting out as a precautionary measure. He watched the drills, spending most of the practice within earshot of receivers coach Ray Sherman.

"It was just sore," Bryant said. "They just preferred for me [to sit out]. I'm going tomorrow."

Bryant, who missed most of his final season at Oklahoma State due to a suspension stemming from lying to NCAA investigators about his relationship with ex-Cowboy Deion Sanders, has dealt with various ailments since being drafted by the Cowboys.

Bryant struggled with his conditioning during the first workout of the rookie minicamp. He twisted his ankle on the final play of that minicamp. He missed a practice due to stomach issues two weeks ago and suffered a minor hip injury the next day.

Bryant has been getting repetitions as the Cowboys' third receiver. Sam Hurd played that role Tuesday despite the return of Patrick Crayton, who had that job last season but hadn't participated in the voluntary workouts until Tuesday.
