Wade Phillips likely to rest 3 Cowboys
CANTON, Ohio -- Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said tight end Martellus Bennett, linebacker Sean Lee and safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah will probably not play in Sunday's preseason opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Bennett missed the start of training camp because of an ankle injury suffered a week before camp started. He has returned to practice, and Phillips said he's looked good in running his routes despite suffering from soreness. The tight end wants to play, but Phillips said it's more of a precaution.
Lee strained his quad in camp and has missed 13 practices. He returned Wednesday.
Owusu-Ansah hasn't participated on the field since he was drafted in April because of a separated shoulder. During rehab for that injury, Owusu-Ansah also suffered a hamstring injury that slowed his progress. He returned to practice Wednesday.
Phillips expects Lee, Bennett and Owusu-Ansah to play in the second preseason game Thursday against Oakland.
