IRVING -- The Dallas Cowboys were missing three starters from Wednesday's practice.

Running back Marion Barber, who injured a calf in the second half of last Thursday's game against the New Orleans Saints, missed his second day of practice.

Barber, who is questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts, hasn't missed any games this season. He missed one game due to a thigh injury last year and he missed one game in 2008 to a toe injury.

If Barber doesn't start or play, Felix Jones would start and Tashard Choice would get more snaps.

"You have to prepare every week because you never know what's going to happen," Jones said. "When I get the opportunities I have to take advantage of it. When given those opportunities I will do it to the fullest of my abilities."

Jones has been hampered by a right bruised hip and was limited in practice last week. But he played fine in the loss to the Saints, rushing for 44 yards on 13 carries.

"I'm still keeping on top of it," Jones said of his hip.

Choice, who normally practices with the punt units, was on scout team during Wednesday's session, which would mean he's preparing for more snaps with the offense.

Starting inside linebackers Bradie James (knee) and Keith Brooking (foot) missed practice as well. Team officials have held James out of some practices as a precaution for most of the season. Brooking, who has a sprained foot that forces him to wear a protective boot, is being held out as a precaution as well. He plans to practice Thursday.

"It's doing good," Brooking said of his foot. "I noticed a lot of improvement the last couple of days. Practice tomorrow and be smart with it and be ready to roll on Sunday."
