Chris Greisen is Cowboys' QB insurance
By signing Greisen, 34, to the practice squad, the Cowboys do not have to pay a $25,000 transfer fee to the UFL. Greisen helped Florida reach the UFL championship game by winning his three starts. He completed 56-of-79 passes for 643 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions in the regular season.
The Cowboys had an opening on the practice squad after Teddy Williams was added to the active roster last week.
Kitna injured his left oblique muscle in the second quarter of Saturday's loss at Arizona. If, as expected, Kitna can't play, Stephen McGee would make the first start of his career and the Cowboys would have to add Greisen from the practice squad to the active roster.
Greisen (6-foot-3, 220 pounds) played two seasons for the Arena Football League's Dallas Desperados, which the Jones' family owned, and was coached by Cowboys pro scouting coordinator Will McClay. He spent parts of three NFL seasons with Arizona after the Cardinals took him in the seventh round of the 1999 draft out of Northwest Missouri State.
