The Cowboys have gone after a big name with a big personality to interview to become their next defensive coordinator.

Rob Ryan, whose brother, Rex, coaches the New York Jets, will come in to interview, according to a source.

ESPN's NFL Insider Adam Schefter also cited a source that said the Cowboys are looking at Ryan.

The Cowboys have been searching for a coordinator since Jason Garrett took over as coach last week.

Of the candidates interviewed, only Greg Manusky has taken a job. Manusky interviewed for the job on Wednesday but he's in the final stages of joining the San Diego Chargers, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Ryan, meanwhile, has emerged as a possibility. He runs a 3-4 scheme that ranked 22nd in the league last season with Cleveland.

But with a new coach coming to Cleveland in Pat Shurmur, it appears Ryan will not return.

Vic Fangio also met with team officials but it appears he's leaning toward the San Francisco 49ers.

Miami Dolphins assistant coach Todd Bowles spoke to the Cowboys last week about their head coaching position before it was given to Jason Garrett. Bowles, despite being a defensive coach and knowing the Cowboys personnel having coached there for a few years, hasn't been invited back to interview for the defensive coordinator job. The Cowboys would need permission again from the Dolphins to interview for the defensive coordinator job based on league rules.

Paul Pasqualoni, who finished the season as defensive coordinator, decided Thursday to become the head coach at the University of Connecticut.
