Dallas Stars center Mike Modano said he felt good after skating Monday morning for the first time since undergoing an appendectomy a week earlier.

In a text message to ESPNDallas.com, Modano said he plans to join the team, which is trying to keep its faint playoff hopes alive, in time for Saturday's game at the Los Angeles Kings.

The Stars are in Nashville to face the Predators on Tuesday night then head to California for three games, starting Thursday in San Jose.

Modano, 39, indicated that he plans to skate again Tuesday. He has appeared in 54 of the Stars' 72 games this season and has 13 goals and 13 assists.

Modano, who holds the NHL career scoring record for U.S.-born players, was expected to miss two weeks after the surgery.
