Richards, who is rehabbing in New York, said he'll return to his full offseason program in 8 to 10 weeks.
The surgery was performed to ease some pain he felt in the hip during the season and to take care "of some maintenance" to guard against the injury turning into anything more troublesome.
"Had some time, so I got it done," Richards said via text Monday.
Richards, who turns 30 in May, had 67 assists and 13 power play goals this season.
