Player of the week: Leemire Goldwire, Charlotte
The 5-11 senior guard averaged 29 points and eight rebounds in a pair of home wins. He hit nine trifectas, one shy of the school record, finishing with a career-high 34 points in the 49ers' 75-68 victory over Davidson. Goldwire then scored a game-high 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting as Charlotte beat Southern Illinois, 71-56.
Team of the week:Charlotte
Very quietly Bobby Lutz has done a super job. It's a nice week when you can beat Davidson and Southern Illinois, two teams that are not cupcakes by any stretch of the imagination.
Coach of the week: Tom Izzo, Michigan State
It is never easy to win on the road in college basketball and Izzo led the Spartans to victories at two difficult places. The Spartans won at Bradley (66-61) and at BYU (68-61). Trust me, ask Rick Pitino how good the Cougars and Trent Plaisted are!
Diaper Dandy of the week: Nick Calathes, Florida
He has had a solid start for Billy Donovan's club and Calathes put up good numbers in a pair of victories. Against Florida A&M he scored 20 points, dished nine assists, grabbed eight boards and committed just one turnover. Calathes had 24 points, nine assists and just two turnovers vs. Jacksonville.
Shocks of the week: Stephen F. Austin over Oklahoma and East Carolina over N.C. State
The Lumberjacks won at Norman, 66-62 behind Josh Alexander's 19 points. The home loss was just Oklahoma's second in its last 60 non-conference games at Lloyd Noble Center.
East Carolina's win was improbable considering the Pirates were 0-57 vs. ACC opponents entering the game. NC State was 17-0 lifetime vs. East Carolina and Clemson won there by 15 earlier in the week. Sam Hinnant scored a career-high 30 points in the upset.
