Culpepper in limbo

Daunte Culpepper will have to wait until next week at the earliest to see where he stands with the Green Bay Packers. He visited the Packers before the draft but they drafted two rookie quarterbacks, Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn.

Culpepper had hoped to be in one of the 23 minicamps this weekend, but now his status remains on hold. Another consideration is the Raiders, who had him on the roster last year. The Raiders have been talking on and off with Trent Dilfer, who was let go by the 49ers.

Bills line up LB: The Bills looked at Dolphins linebacker Donnie Spragan, and there appears to be enough interest that he could sign there in the next week or two. Spragan is big enough to play in the 3-4 or the 4-3. Spragan visited the Bills on Tuesday.

Jags up offer: Reports the Jaguars were considering offering a 2009 No. 1 draft choice in a Lito Sheppard trade offers some hope something could get done with the Eagles.

Three teams were talking to the Eagles about Sheppard, but the Jaguars now seem to be the leading team as far as interest. The Eagles wanted a first-round pick in the 2008 draft, but that didn't work out. The next option is getting a top choice in 2009.

With the addition of two first-round pass-rushers -- Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves -- the Jaguars should have an improved pass rush. If they can add Sheppard to go with Drayton Florence and Rashean Mathis, the Jaguars will have enough top flight coverage cornerbacks to go against the Colts.

Tubbs slowed down: The arthrosopic surgery on the right knee of Seahawks defensive tackle Marcus Tubbs was a setback although the team really wasn't counting on him. He's missed 32 games over the past three seasons and is entering the final year of his contract. The plan is for him to come back late in training camp. He'll be on the physically unable to perform list until then.

In the meantime, the Seahawks have acumulated enough defensive tackles to get by. They recently added Larry Tripplett as insurance.

Pool drying up: The list of unrestricted free-agent signings reached 201 Wednesday. That leaves only 110 unrestricted free agents available and more than 10 have retired. In other words, there isn't much left on the streets.
