The Miami Herald is reporting that the Marlins might be close to a deal for lefty reliever Arthur Rhodes. If so, it would cross one potential suitor off the list for Reds reliever Jeremy Affeldt.
Florida recently dispatched a scout to look at both Affeldt and righty David Weathers -- both of whom could be available for the right price.
The Marlins are scared of burning out their main lefty reliever, Renyel Pinto, who is tied for the major league lead with 57 appearances. "He's out there every day. He's like Cal Ripken,'' said a scout.
Florida just called up lefty Taylor Tankersley to give Pinto some help, but he's a candidate to return to the minors once starter Anibal Sanchez comes off the disabled list Thursday.
