Tragedy strikes Pahokee
While this weekend brought terrific contests and fantastic finishes all across the country, it also brought a horrible tragedy in South Florida, where Pahokee defensive standout Norman Griffith was heartbreakingly shot and killed early Saturday morning after Pahokee's homecoming win over Jupiter High. WPTV's web site has the details. Thoughts and prayers go out to the Blue Devil football program and coach Blaze Thompson, as well as the Griffith family and the entire community. Griffith was reportedly targeted after appearing at a dance at a nearby Belle Glade community center, where he was wearing his Pahokee team colors. Griffith attended our Nike Camp in Miami this past April, checking in at 5-foot-11½, 201 pounds, and worked out with the linebackers. Griffith, a senior, reportedly had scholarship offers from Iowa State, Buffalo and Ball State.
Update: Still no arrests and the team is still determining if it will travel north this weekend for a big out-of-state matchup against FAB 50 No. 5 Byrnes (S.C.).
