Mansfield 20 (7-4), No. 30 Abilene 14 (10-1)* -- a first-round shocker in the Class 5A Division II bracket, as Abilene, the top-ranked team in the entire field, was knocked off by a Mansfield team that finished in a three-way tie for second in its own district. Stepfan Taylor, a fine senior running back who's on his way to Stanford, led the charge for the Tigers, rushing 33 times for 195 yards and two TDs, including the game-winner from 14 yards out with just under four minutes remaining. Senior Darrion Thomas, the son of the late, great Kansas City Chief Derrick Thomas, led the South defense, the Kansas City Star reports.

Blaine 28 (11-1), No. 42 Cretin-Derham Hall 27 (12-1) OT* -- Minnesota's top-ranked team went down in overtime as Blaine stopped the Raiders' two-point attempt to win it, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Blaine QB James Peterson led the way, completing 14 of 29 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown and also rushing 22 times for 87 yards and a score.
