Two more names have popped up for the Auburn job. The first is Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong, which from a recruiting standpoint would be an excellent choice.
Strong is an outstanding recruiter who has worked under Urban Meyer and Ron Zook (two excellent recruiting head coaches) for the past six seasons with the Gators. He relates well to prospects and would likely hire a strong recruiting staff and an offensive staff with an exciting system to attract talented skill players. Strong is long overdue for a head coaching job and most believe he will do quite well making the jump from coordinator to a job like Auburn.
Strong also has recruited the state of Alabama for the Gators during the Meyer era, landing jumbo athlete William Green out of Spain Park High in Hoover in the Class of 2008.
The second is Georgia assistant coach Rodney Garner, who is one of the best recruiters in the history of the conference. A former All-SEC offensive lineman at Auburn, Garner has been with Georgia since 1988 and is currently the recruiting coordinator, assistant head coach and defensive line coach.
Cotton back with Tigers
Quarterback Raymond Cotton re-committed to Auburn shortly after de-committing from the Tigers. Apparently, Cotton and his father were reassured that Auburn would attract a quality head coach and staff.
