Left-hander CC Sabathia isn't going to make a decision about where he's going to pitch for at least another week. He'll likely wait until first baseman Mark Teixeira signs, because the Angels are in the mix for both players. Sabathia hopes the Angels, Dodgers or Giants will step up and make an offer once they settle some of their other pursuits.

• The Mets are close to a striking a three-year deal with free-agent closer Francisco Rodriguez.

• The Red Sox have made a push for right-hander A.J. Burnett. People familiar with the discussions indicate that Burnett likely will end up with a five-year deal wherever he goes.

• The Orioles have targeted free-agent shortstop Cesar Izturis. They've also had discussions with the Reds about catcher Ramon Hernandez.

• There's nothing to a Jeff Francoeur-for-Zack Greinke swap between the Braves and Royals.

• It seems unlikely that the Rockies will trade Garrett Atkins. The third baseman has been linked to the Dodgers, Giants and Twins.

• Free-agent reliever Brian Fuentes may end up with the Cardinals or Angels.
