• Now that the Mets have their closer vacancy filled, they're turning their attention to starting pitching. They have a meeting scheduled Wednesday afternoon with Scott Boras to discuss both Derek Lowe and Oliver Perez. They also plan to meet with the agents for Randy Wolf and Jon Garland.

• A source who spoke with Angels owner Arte Moreno downplayed suggestions from other teams that the Angels are contemplating meeting Boras' 10-year, $200 million price tag for Mark Teixeira. The Angels are "remaining patient" on Teixeira, the source said. But he said Moreno had laid down "very, very definitive parameters" for signing Teixeira. And a $200 million deal wouldn't appear to be one of them.

• The same source said the Angels have zero interest in Manny Ramirez.

• In a thin catcher's market, free agent Michael Barrett is stirring some interest from the Orioles, Astros, Blue Jays and Marlins.
