The 49ers made their first offseason moves under head coach Mike Singletary and released linebacker Tully Banta-Cain and safety Keith Lewis. Banta-Cain came to the 49ers as a free agent a couple of seasons ago. Lewis was a sixth-round pick of the 49ers in 2004. Their releases save the 49ers $2.275 million of cap room.
Jets release Barrett: Rex Ryan's first move as head coach of the Jets is releasing cornerback David Barrett, whose playing time has decreased over the past couple of seasons. Barrett was scheduled to make $5.1 million this season in the final year of his contract.
New home for QB: Bruce Gradkowski, who was released by the Cleveland Browns Monday, wasn't out of work very long. The Raiders and 49ers each put in waiver claims on him, and on Tuesday he was awarded to the Raiders. Gradkowski, who has started game when he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was signed by the Browns late last season when Brady Quinn was hurt.
