Good morning, puckheads. It's D-Day in the NHL, and one of the most prominent D-men might not be traded after all.
A source close to the situation said this morning that it was "95 percent sure" Chris Pronger would not move today. Ducks GM Bob Murray simply hasn't been impressed with the offers he has received. "He would need an over-the-top offer, which he doesn't have so far," the source said.
Then again, once other GMs see reports like this, they could finally step up and pay the price. Otherwise, looks as though the Ducks may wait until the June entry draft in Montreal to see what's out there for Pronger, who has one more season left on his deal at $6.25 million.
Meanwhile, we were told this morning that contract talks between the Buffalo Sabres and center Tim Connolly finally gained some traction last night. Talks were scheduled to begin again this morning at 9 a.m. ET. Obviously, time is of the essence, as Connolly otherwise would be an unrestricted free agent July 1.
In the meantime, where are the trades???
"Pretty quiet right now," an NHL GM told us at 8:30 a.m. ET.
The fun will start soon enough.
