Streaks made to be broken?
Baylor will be attempting to snap a 24-game losing streak to Texas that dates to Feb. 21, 1998. On that night, the Bears notched an 80-75 record that gave them three victories in the first four games that the teams played in Big 12 play.
Here's an idea how long ago that game was. Harry Miller was coaching the Bears and Tom Penders was finishing his final season with the Longhorns.
Rick Barnes was hired the following season and hasn't lost to any Baylor coach during that time. Included in that streak were a 78-72 victory in Waco on Jan. 27 and a 73-57 triumph in Austin on March 2.
Baylor isn't intimidated by its chore. Coach Scott Drew had never beaten Kansas before notching the 71-64 upset over the No. 1 seed Jayhawks on Thursday.
The Bears appeared loose and relaxed after the Kansas upset. But whether that will provide a dose of confidence against Texas is clearly another story.
It will be interesting to see how the game turns out.
