Xavier pulls away, grabs Sweet 16 berth

March, 22, 2009
BOISE, Idaho --- Everyone not wearing red in Taco Bell Arena knew Xavier was going to pull away, it was just a matter of when.

After 30 minutes of missed layups, dunks and a variety of other mistakes that caused the Musketeers to trail much of Sunday's second-round game against Wisconsin, Xavier finally played enough defense and made enough shots to pull away for a 60-49 win. And most of the run was spurred on by reserve forward Jamel McLean, who had six points, but four of them were big dunks that brought the Xavier crowd to its feet and the Musketeers to life.

Xavier outscored Wisconsin 24-14 in the final 10 minutes to move on to their second Sweet 16 in as many years. The Musketeers will face Pittsburgh in Boston.

Last season, Xavier went to the Elite Eight before losing to UCLA.
