All quiet on the Ford Field front

DETROIT -- It got quiet in here in a hurry.

The massive Michigan State throng in Ford Field was silenced rather quickly by North Carolina's opening onslaught. At the under-12-minute media timeout, the Tar Heels lead by 13 and it could be worse if Roy Williams hadn't taken Tyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson out of the game at the same time.

So far, Michigan State leading scorer Kalin Lucas has struggled against Carolina's defense, missing both of his field goal attempts -- one of which he shot off the side of the backboard from close range. The Spartans need some stops -- and some easy baskets -- to get back in the game and bring the crowd to life.
