LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Indiana is threatening to spoil the party for the home team at the Louisville Regional.
The Hoosiers have jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning thanks to some small ball and a controversial -- at least from Louisville's perspective -- umpire's call.
With a man on first, Indiana's Vince Gonzalez was awarded first base after being hit by pitcher Justin Marks. Cardinals manager Dan McDonnell came out to argue that Gonzalez made no effort to get out of the pitch's way, but the umpires let the call stand after a brief conference. A sacrifice bunt and a sac fly later, and Indiana had the lead.
No. 9 hitter Jake Dunning then singled to left for the second run off Marks.
Hoosiers pitcher Eric Arnett hit two Louisville batters in the bottom of the first. A couple more pitches that sail a little too far inside could start tempers flaring here.
