BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU tried to keep things interesting in the bottom of the fourth, but instead left two runners on base. Rice has earned a reputation for its defense, and the Owls held LSU to just one run in the fourth inning despite getting into a bases-loaded jam. It was the first sign of offense this evening for LSU, though, and it finally injected some life into the crowd here at the Box.
The three early errors seemed to set the course of the game, though, and the hole is getting bigger. LSU pitcher Anthony Ranaudo gave up a leadoff home run in the top of the fifth to Steven Sultzbaugh, his eight home run of the season. It was a fastball on a 3-1 count right down the middle, and Sultzbaugh was ready for it. It sailed over left center for a 4-1 lead.
We're heading into the bottom of the fifth.
