LAS VEGAS -- We got a note from a source tonight that contract talks between the Vancouver Canucks and the Sedin twins have taken an interesting turn, although both sides are still at a "stalemate."
The Swedish newspaper Expressen reported Thursday that the twins' camp offered up identical 12-year deals to the Canucks' front office. Talk about taking the bull by the horns!
A source told me Thursday night the 12-year deal had an average cap hit of $5.3 million a year -- cheaper than Henrik Zetterberg's $6.1 million average cap hit with Detroit.
My colleague Darren Dreger of TSN.ca also reported the same $5.3 million figure. But we were both told Canucks GM Mike Gillis has already rejected the offer.
Gillis declined comment when reached by us via e-mail Thursday night.
Needless to say, we haven't heard the last of this drama in Vancouver.
