Kicker/punter
Drew Basil (Chillicothe, Ohio) headed south to SEC country and came away with his second scholarship offer.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder attended Kentucky's camp last Friday and showed the Wildcats' staff his ability to punt, kickoff and hit field goals.
"The (Kentucky) coaches had seen my video," Basil said. "Then in person they thought I did well."
However, Basil did not immediately land an offer from the Wildcats. He headed back to Lexington on Wednesday and kicked and punted for Kentucky coach Rich Brooks.
"Then he offered me," Basil said. "I told him thank you and it is great to get an offer. Then I went on a tour of the facilities and saw the academic center."
Basil has offers from Kentucky and Air Force, and said he is looking at both schools. He is also looking at Purdue, Ohio State, Michigan, LSU, Alabama and Cincinnati.
He worked out at Ohio State's punting and kicking camp on Thursday and is going to visit Iowa State on Friday. Basil said he does not have a favorite at this point.
Purdue offers Ohio defensive lineman
Defensive tackle Josh Davis (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) has received his second scholarship offer. He landed a scholarship offer from Indiana in mid-February and just added an offer from Purdue.
He is originally from Bluffton, Ind., but he moved to Plain City, Ohio, after his freshman year and has been a two-year starter for Jonathan Alder. The 6-6, 270-pounder made 74 tackles including two sacks during his junior season.
Davis has attended junior days at Indiana, Cincinnati, Notre Dame and Northwestern. He has visited Ohio State, Illinois and Vanderbilt -- but currently doesn't have a favorite.
Junior tight end meets with Paterno
Tight end Ben Koyack (Oil City, Pa.) visited Penn State on Thursday as scheduled. The 6-5, 230-pounder is one of the country's top junior tight end prospects.
"I went with my mom, my dad and coach (Ray) Beers and his wife," Koyack said when asked about his PSU visit. "We got a tour of the (football) office and the campus. I had already seen the football facilities."
Koyack met with Joe Paterno before leaving State College.
"I talked to coach (Mike) McQueary and Joe Pa," Koyack said. "It went pretty good. They said they want me to go there. They said they are looking forward to me committing sometime in the near future."
Koyack attended Ohio State's camp last Sunday. Up next is West Virginia's camp this Sunday.
He has at least 17 scholarship offers including Penn State, West Virginia, Pitt, Florida, Wisconsin, Boston College, Maryland, Virginia Tech and NC State. His top four choices remain Penn State, Ohio State, Pitt and West Virginia.
After his visit to Penn State on Thursday, Koyack again said Ohio State and Penn State remain tied for the top spot on his list.
Koyack caught 48 passes during his sophomore season and scored 10 times.
