Colston getting plenty of red zone work in camp

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Tuesday that Marques Colston has been extremely active in the Saints' red zone sets during minicamp action, lending credence to the notion that Colston is recovering well from his knee surgery. Colston has had knee surgeries in each of the past two offseasons, however, so he'll carry an unfortunate amount of risk with him into the '09 regular season.

A few other things I ran across:

• The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the Lions don't plan on announcing their depth chart at any position until the end of training camp. Most important for fantasy players is the question of whether Daunte Culpepper or first-overall pick Matthew Stafford will be listed at No. 1 at quarterback, although the receiving depth chart behind Calvin Johnson should also be of interest in deeper leagues. Bryant Johnson, Ronald Curry and rookie Derrick Williams figure to be in competition for non-Megatron catches.

• The Indianapolis Star reports that, as expected, the Colts' third-receiver gig is likely to come down to undrafted rookie Austin Collie, Roy Hall or Pierre Garcon. Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez are set as Peyton Manning's starters at wideout. Whoever wins the No. 3 job will actually be the team's fourth or fifth receiving option -- tight end Dallas Clark belongs in the top three -- and thus likely won't have a ton of fantasy value, barring an injury to one of the main receivers. But the No. 3 guy could occasionally leech value away from one of the guys worth drafting.
