MONTREAL -- Last week, a source told us the Phoenix Coyotes were trying to sign goalie Robert Esche and bring him back to the NHL from Russia. But we found out tonight those talks have fallen through.
"We were interested in Robert, we made him an offer, a two-year deal, but he decided to go back to Russia," Coyotes GM Don Maloney told ESPN.com. "He had the ability to get out of his [Russian] contract if the [NHL] deal made sense, but he decided to go back to Russia."
Maloney added that his team remains on the lookout for a goalie.
