Georgia remained hot on the recruiting trail with a commitment from defensive end
Dexter Morant (Manning, S.C./Manning) on Thursday.
His decision came down to the Bulldogs and Alabama, but he had close to 20 offers.
The 6-foot-6, 235-pounder had an excellent performance at multiple summer prospect camps. He reportedly was one of the most impressive performers at one of the sessions in Tuscaloosa.
Morant gives Georgia four commitments at defensive end for the 2010 class, joining B.J. Butler (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola), Brandon Burrows (Marietta, Ga./Walton) and Jalen Fields (Dalton, Ga./Dalton). All four are rated 77 or higher by Scouts Inc. and Burrows and Fields are both ESPNU150 Watch List prospects.
Morant also is the second Palmetto State prospect that Georgia has landed in the last week. Georgia Military College safety Jakar Hamilton, one of the top junior college prospects in the country, committed to the Bulldogs during the weekend and played high school football at Strom Thurmond High in Johnston, S.C.
Washington in at LSU
Just as Georgia has had success in South Carolina, so too does LSU continue to do so in Texas. With today's commitment of Under Armour All-American offensive lineman (DeSoto, Texas/DeSoto), 25 percent (four of the 16 commitments) of the Tigers' class is made up of Texas prospects.
Though the 2007 national championship and the on-field success of the program sells itself, big credit still must be given to ace recruiters Larry Porter and D.J. McCarthy, both of whom have given the Tigers more sizzle in the Lone Star State than perhaps at any other time.
New offer, honor for Sanders
Texas Tech is the most recent offer for receiver Vincent Sanders (Macon, Miss./Noxubee County). He was recently named to the "Dandy Dozen" by the Jackson (Miss.) Clarion-Ledger. That's annually a huge honor for high school football players in Mississippi.
