Alex Smith (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) -- one of the top tight end prospects in the Midwest -- remains committed to Cincinnati, but it is not certain he will sign with the Bearcats.
He has been considering visits to a number of the schools that have offered him a scholarship and it looks like his final decision will come down to three colleges.
Smith attended Cincinnati's game on Saturday, but two other schools are continuing their push.
"I talked to (Wisconsin coach) Bret Bielema," Lakota West coach Larry Cox said. "He has said Alex is a big one for him. I know North Carolina is coming after him still pretty hard."
Smith made an official visit to Wisconsin the weekend of Sept. 5. To this point he has not scheduled an official visit to either North Carolina or Cincinnati.
Virginia OL will visit Penn State Saturday
In August, offensive lineman Khamrone Kolb (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) said he had cut his list of approximately a dozen scholarship offers down to three schools -- Penn State, Connecticut and Virginia. However, a fourth school has now worked its way into the picture.
"I've been talking to a few coaches lately," Kolb said. "I've been talking more to North Carolina State. I'm still talking to Penn State, Virginia and Connecticut."
Kolb plans to attend the Temple at Penn State game this weekend with his parents on an unofficial visit. He is also planning to attend the Ohio State at Penn State game Nov. 7 and that might be an official visit.
"I haven't set up any official visits yet," he said. "I plan to take some. I will take one to Penn State."
The 6-foot-6, 300-pounder has been a varsity starter since the beginning of his sophomore season and has played every position on both sides of the offensive line, except center. Kolb has also played tight end, but will play on the offensive line at the next level, likely as a tackle.
Ohio DB favors ACC school
Safety Aaron Morris (Cleveland, Ohio/Glenville) has seen his scholarship offer list grow to half a dozen. Morris has offers from Maryland, Illinois, Syracuse, Ball State, Toledo and Ohio University.
"The top three I'm looking at are Maryland, Illinois and Ball State," Morris said. "Maryland is my favorite. Their coaching staff is real nice. I have a lot of family down there. They say a lot of good things about the school."
The 6-0, 195-pounder is playing mostly linebacker during his senior season, however, he played safety and had three interceptions his junior season. He is being recruited to play that position in college.
