7:40 p.m. ETA couple of Angels players watched the Texas-Oklahoma "Red River Rivalry'' football game with interest today. Outfielder Reggie Willits is a former Sooner, and infielder Brandon Wood would have attended Texas to play baseball for coach Augie Garrido if the Angels hadn't selected him in the first round of the 2003 draft.
Although Texas' 16-13 victory gave Wood bragging rights -- and the luxury of doing the trash talking -- there was nothing else at stake. Wood said he offered to make a friendly wager on the proceedings, but Willits declined.
"He told me he doesn't gamble,'' Wood said. "I think he would have last year, though.''
This year Texas came in unbeaten and ranked third in the country, while Oklahoma had already lost two games and was ranked 20th. Last year Oklahoma entered the game ranked No. 1, and was upset 45-35 by the Longhorns.
