ESPN Classic NBA Playoffs Marathon

ESPN Classic is getting you hyped up for the NBA Playoffs with a marathon of the greatest playoff games ever. The 23-game marathon starts Thursday at 1 p.m. ET with 1984 Nets-76ers 1st Rd Game 5, and runs a total of 44 hours until it concludes with 1992 East 1st Rd, Game 3: Bulls vs Heat. Don't miss ESPN Full Circle: Bulls vs Heat, Saturday at 9 pm ET.

Albert King sank two free throws and a tap-in in the final 2:19 to lift the young Nets to a 101-98 triumph over the veteran 76ers, knocked the defending champions from the NBA playoffs in the deciding game of their series.

Moses Malone scored 23 of his 29 points in the second half, enabling the 76ers to eliminate New York from the NBA Eastern Conference semifinals with a 105-102 victory, despite 35 points by New York forward Bernard King.

Thu, April 20 - 5 pm ET: 1984 East 1st Rd, Game 5: Knicks vs Pistons

 Knicks
Knicks forward Bernard King and Pistons guard Isiah Thomas put on shooting exhibition as the Knicks win 127-123 in overtime. King finished with 44 points and Thomas had 35 points for the Pistons.

Michael Jordan scores 63 points to set an NBA record, but Larry Bird leads the Celtics to a 135-131 victory in double overtime. Jordan connected on 22 of 41 shots, 19 of 21 free throws, and also led the team with six assists.

Larry Nance scored 27 points and Mark Price added 24 to offset a 50-point performance by Michael Jordan, and the Cleveland Cavaliers evened their best-of-5 playoff series against Chicago with a 108-105 overtime victory.

Celtics forward Larry Bird steals the inbound pass from Pistons guard Isiah Thomas and passes to Celtics guard Dennis Johnson for the winning lay-up. Celtics win, 108-107. Bird led Boston with 36 points and Detroit was paced by Adrian Dantley's 25 points.

Fri, April 21 - 1 am ET: 1986 West Finals, Game 5: Rockets vs Lakers

Rockets center Ralph Sampson's one-touch, turnaround flip from an inbounds pass in the closing seconds gives the Rockets a 114-112 win and ends the series. Akeem Olajuwon led Houston with 30 points and seven rebounds.

The Knicks knock off the defending champion Bulls 96-91 to take a 2-0 lead in the series. Patrick Ewing had 26 points, but John Starks stole the show with an unbelieveable jam over Michael Jordan (36 points) and Horace Grant.

Dudley Bradley, statistically the worst shooter (34.9 percent) in the NBA during the regular season, banked in a 25-footer at the buzzer, capping an 18-0 Washington rally that gave the Bullets a 95-94 victory over the 76ers.

Derrick McKey's layup at the buzzer spoiled a dramatic Houston comeback and gave Seattle a 98-96 victory that eliminated the Rockets from the playoffs. Dale Ellis scored 26 points for Seattle and Akeem Olajuwon led Houston with 24 points and 13 rebounds.

The Suns come back from a 10-point deficit in the 4th quarter to beat the Utah Jazz, 104-102. Guard Kevin Johnson wins the game for Phoenix on a last second jumper, and the Suns win the series 3-2.

Celtics forward Larry Bird suffers a first-half concussion, but returns to score 32 points to lead the Celtics past the Pacers, 124-121. The Celtics take the series three-games-to-two.

 Wolves
The Timberwolves made seven free throws in the final 24.3 seconds to defeat the Lakers 114-110 and take a 2-1 series lead. Kevin Garnett had 33 points and 14 rebounds before fouling out in overtime. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 30 points and Shaquille O'Neal had 28 points and 17 rebounds.

Fri, April 21 - 3 pm ET: 1993 East 1st Rd, Game 4: Celtics vs Hornets

The Celtics make one of the greatest comebacks in playoff history, but fall just short to Charlotte. Hornets center Alonzo Mourning hit a fallaway 21-foot jumper with 0.4 seconds remaining to win 104-103. Boston rallied admirably after being down 88-70 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Charles Barkley scored a career-high 56 points, leading the Phoenix Suns to a 140-133 victory over the Warriors and a sweep of the series. Barkley's 38 first-half points set an NBA Playoffs record and he finished the series with 112 points.

 Bullets
Michael Jordan delivered 55 points and another playoff victory for the Chicago Bulls, a 109-104 victory. Jordan had 20 of the Bulls' 23 fourth-quarter points. Calbert Cheaney led the Bullets with 26 points.

The Bulls needed overtime to beat the ailing Nets 96-93 after blowing a 14-point, fourth-quarter lead. Michael Jordan finished with 39 points and Scottie Pippen added 24. Keith Van Horn, the Nets' leading scorer, didn't play in the second half because of a stomach virus.

The eighth-seeded Denver Nuggets beat the top seed Seattle Sonics 98-94, marking the first time a No. 8 seed beat a No. 1 seed. Dikembe Mutombo blocked eight shots, including critical blocks on Detlef Schrempf and Shawn Kemp in the final 1:18 of overtime.

The Lakers defeat George Gervin's Spurs 101-100 to advance to NBA Finals. Lakers center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar led all scorers with 28 points and also had 10 rebounds.

In a dramatic shootout at the Seattle Coliseum, the Sonics beat the Rockets 128-125 in double overtime to win the series 4-2. Tom Chambers, Dale Ellis and McDaniel combined for 97 points. The Rockets were led by Hakeem Olajuwon, who scored 49 points, grabbed 25 rebounds and blocked six shots.

Sat, April 22 - 5 am ET: 2001 West 1st Rd, Game 1: Mavericks vs Jazz

Karl Malone scored 26 points and John Stockton had 12 points, 18 assists and two go-ahead free throws with 25.8 seconds left as the Utah Jazz scored the final six points and beat the Dallas Mavericks 88-86. Michael Finley led the Mavericks with 26 points.

Sat, April 22 - 7 am ET: 1989 East 1st Rd, Game 5: Bulls vs Cavaliers

 Bulls
Bulls guard Michael Jordan scores his famous double-clutch jumper at the end of regulation to beat the Cavaliers, 101-100, and Chicago wins the series. Jordan averaged 39.8 points and 8.2 assists in the first-round series.

Michael Jordan scores 56 points, the third-highest total in playoff history, to help the Chicago Bulls beat the Miami Heat, 119-114, and complete a sweep of the series. Jordan hit 19 of his final 25 field goals and 16 of 18 free throws. Glen Rice had 25 points for Miami.
